DIY Fall Decor & Watercoloring with Stamps

DIY Fall Decor

The Stampin' Up! Holiday Catalog goes live today.  Schools have started, fair season is winding down and the nights are getting cooler.  Fall is on its way.  That's all the reason that I needed to make this cute autumn home decor.  All images for today's fall craft project were stamped with the For All Things stamp set by Stampin' Up!.

For All Things Watercolor Tutorial

Yes, I was trolling through my Dad's Workshop trash again.  This hunk of oak trim was a fabulous find.  A single coat of paint allows the beautiful wood grains to peek through the surface.  Perfect!  I stamped the "Hello Fall" directly on the wood for a fun border.

For All Things

I love my job. Being a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator gives me the excuse I need to hole up in my stamp room for both fun and business.

Have a BIG Wish List?  Today is last day to treat yourself to $150 from your list for just $99.  Find out more at the end of this post.

Adding bit of this and a snippet of that adds to the eclectic look.  A random button, Baker's Twine and Burlap Ribbon added bulk and interest. Hint: I trimmed the edges of my Burlap ribbon and began unraveling.  For my efforts I was rewarded with curly twine and frayed burlap.

Watercoloring With Stamps

Watercolor Stamping Technique

Take a walk and you will notice that there is nothing symetric about leaves.  They are crumpled, torn and multiple colors.  No two leaves look exactly alike.  Watercoloring with stamps was my solution to natural looking leaves.

I started with a piece of watercolor paper.  Next, I began inking up my stamp.  For today's project I used Pumpkin Pie, Hello Honey and Soft Suede Inks.

Stamping Tutorial

For a hint of shading and color variation, I inked the edges with Soft Suede Ink.

To achieve the watercolor look, I misted my stamp with water and stamped.  I was surprised and delighted to see that each leaf looked a little different.

Paper Leaves

Finally, I curled my leaf's edges with my Bone Folder.
