National Vascular Birthmark Day

My Heart Similes Thinking of You

Today, May 15th, is the first ever National Vascular Birthmark Awareness Day.  Which of course, means that it's time to make a card for the occasion, but more importantly, let's put heart shaped "birthmarks" on our cheeks for Vascular Birthmark Awareness.  I'll share details about the today's card in just a bit, but first let me share our story.

National Vascular Birthmark Awareness Day

Our precious grandson, Levi, was born almost 3 years ago with a Port Wine Birthmark on the left side of his face, but that has not  changed his sunny disposition in the least.  Levi with his ready smile is a little bundle of energy and mischief.  And he always brings a smile to my heart.  Life is beautiful!

Levi, Julie, Lincoln

Here's Levi, Julie (his Mama) and Lincoln (his brother) celebrating National Vascular Birthmark Awareness Day together.  I suspect that Dad is behind the camera, so he's celebrating too.  Lincoln has always been a bit jealous that Levi has a birthmark, so he was delighted to have a birthmark for a day.

Love You Lots

Today's card gives one last hurray for the fabulous Love you Lots and Suite Sayings Stamp sets.  Both sets are on the Retirement List so their days are numbered.  The Love You Lots stamp set is a hostess set, so it is only available to order on orders over $150.  The little frog was stamped on a piece of the Eastern Palace designer paper and fussy cut.

Not everything is retiring.  The Scribbly heart is was cut with a die from the Sunshine Wishes Dies and the Soft Sky Stitched Square was cut with the Stitched Shapes dies.

And the fun Lemon Lime Twist Envelope was fashioned with the Envelope Punch Board.  The Lemon Lime Envelope should be a real stand out in the mailbox.

Freshly Made Sketches

This Card Sketch from Freshly Made Sketches gave me just the jump start that I needed for this morning.

So, So, So, So Thankful

So Thankful Card

Hello Friends,

It's  not uncommon for me to express myself through Card Making.   But today, there's just no way to express how thankful I am.  Last night, our son was involved in a head on crash.  After lots of tests and a few stitches, they sent Bryan home!  I'm just so very thankful.

The Layered Letters Alphabet stamp set along with the Acorny Thank You set, helped me say exactly what I wanted to say for today's card.

Color Throwdown

The bold and cheerful color combo came from Color Throwdown.

I used Soft Sky, Real Red, Garden Green and So Saffron.

Comfort & Healing and Heart Hope

Comfort & Healing and Heart Hope

Hello Friends,

My heart filled with dread recently when I found out that my mother was diagnosed with AFib (an irregular heart beat that can be felt as a fluttering or thumping in your chest).  In a nutshell, the major risk with AFib is a stroke.  Mom has a little dog named Bella, so I thought that it would be appropriate to make her a card with the Bella & Friends stamp set.  But my card focus is  Comfort & Healing and Heart Hope.

Bella & Friends Stampin' Up!

 Tips and Tricks

I spent a couple of minutes fussy cutting my dog, so that I could frame her with hope and a heart which a die cuts from the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits Dies set.  I love that set!  There's just something really playful about the swirly, whirly dies.

The bold and happy Cucumber Crush looks so fabulous with the softer blue and yellow.  I'm going to miss Cucumber Crush.  It's a 2015-2017 In Color, which means that its days are numbered.  The Stampin' Up! Retirement list is schedule to come out on April 10 which means Bye, Bye Cucumber Crush and its friends Mint Macaron, Delightful Dijon, Watermelon Wonder and Tip Top Top.  The matching washi tape is from the Affectionately Yours package.

For a the look of sunshine, I splashed a bit of So Saffron behind my Comfort and Healing sentiment (Flourishing Phrases stamp set) and sprinkled just a little bit more with a splatter stamp from the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set.

Sunshine Wishes

Coloring Tips

Don't be afraid to mix mediums when coloring.  I colored Bella with Watercolor Pencils and a Blender Pens, so that her fur looks soft and cuddly.   But I wanted her collar to be a little bolder and brighter.  That's where markers take over.  The Cucumber Crush marker compliments the Cucumber Crush Stitched Circle and the Affectionately Yours Washi Tape.

Handmade Card

I carried the Sunshine Wishes and the Flourishing Phrases through to the inside of my card to let Mom know that I love her and think about her more often than I say.
