Paper Flower Technique for Cards

 

Imagine yourself enjoying a picnic in a beautiful flower garden.  Don't you feel better already? A playful Polka-Dot ribbon and a picnic tablecloth pattern set the stage for this Get Well Card.

Our "flower pot" was stamped with the Button Buddies stamp set.  Let's fill it with flowers.

Robin's Technique Corner-Paper Flowers

• Punch 3 sets of flowers with your Boho Blossom punch in Pretty in Pink, Riding Hood Red and Peach Parfait.
• Mist your flowers with water and crinkle away
• Open up crinkled flowers onto your mat and pierce center with paper-piercing tool
• Insert colored brads (Regals & Subtles)
• Add flowers to your arrangement with a mini glue dot

Step back and enjoy!

Color Balance on Cards

Card Making Color Tips

Do your cards look like a bad comic strip when you incorporate multiple colors? Try an old decorating color ratio to help you achieve balance-60-30-10. These are approximate ratios, not hard and fast.

Notice that my Soft Suede dominates.  Poppy Parade is my supporting color and Daffodil Delight is my bold accent color.  If I would have tried to use these colors evenly, my card would have looked like a traffic light in need of repair.  Or, worse yet, Ketchup and mustard. Ooh, great on a hamburger, but not on a card.  After you have you basic color scheme in mind, feel free to add neutrals or other light accents.

 

Watercoloring Tips

• Tools are everything.  Watercolor paper is essential.  Always use a permanent ink to stamp your outline stamp.  I used Jet Black Stazon Ink
• I used Poppy Parade, Soft Suede and Wild Wasabi Markers.  Move quickly doing one small section at a time so that the ink does not dry.
• Color the parts that you want darker. Hint: Shaded, lined or shadow areas. Then quickly blend with aqua painter.  Have a paper towel handy to squeeze excess water from your painter and to swipe between colors.

Add Shimmer to Cards & Scrapbooks

Smooch Spritz adds a splash of shimmer to my note card.  You should see the shimmer in real life.  Blushing Bride Smooch Spritz (125414) is new to the Occasions Mini Catalog. Happy News-A little birdie told me that Stampin' Up! will be delighting us with more smooches in the future.

My typewriter from the You're My Type stamp set (125650) is heat embossed with Pewter embossing powder (124114).  A little note stands ready to be pulled from the typewriter.  It is lifted with Stampin' Dimensionals.  

For the look of fine stationary I used both the Stampin' Up! Adorning Accent embossing folder & the Adorning Accents Edgelits.  Tucked just below my card front is a strip of Blushing Bride Designer Paper.  Adorning Accents Edgelits Video

Technique Corner-Smooch Spritz

• Before each use, shake vigorously until the particles are fully mixed. The sprayer can become clogged if particles get sucked up into the tube.
• Spray in the direction of the arrow on the nozzle top. For best results, spray six to ten inches from your project. For a heavier application of color, spray closer to the project.
• The Smooch Spritz bottles are made of glass. Place the bottles on a towel or cloth to prevent them from rolling and possibly breaking.
• If the ink dries outside of the nozzle, remove the nozzle and submerge it in a household cleaner for 20 minutes. Rinse, replace the nozzle, shake well, and spray.
• I would recommend the Color Catcher (#121093)to catch the excess spritz.  On a side note, Stazon Cleaner did clean up spray that made its to my work table.  Yes, I was in a hurry and didn't use the Color Catcher. Believe me, it wasn't quicker.
• Make sure that you have enough Smooch Spritz on hand to complete your project.   After building up anticipation, my Smooch Spritz can up empty half way around the table at a Stamping Event.  Life can be so humbling.

Watercoloring Tips

• For best results use watercolor paper.  It handles the moisture well and the color spreads nicely.
• The Aqua Painter give a real watercolor look.
• Shade your images so that you have dark and light.  It adds depth.  As you are coloring image the sun streaming down on your image.
