Penned & Painted and the Color Wash Technique

Penned & Painted Stampin' Up!

 Hello Friends,

Do you enjoy learning new stamping techniques?  It's fun step outside the box and try new thing.  The Penned & Painted stamp set by Stampin' Up! has some pretty outline stamps that look fabulous using the Color Wash Technique.

Color Wash Technique

Color Wash Technique

The trick to coloring on a dark card stock is a technique called Color Washing.  First, stamp and heat emboss your images.  This gives you a nice outline.  Next, paint on a layer of Whisper White Ink inside each outline.  After the White Ink is dry, color your flowers with either an aqua painter or a clear Wink of Stella Brush.  See the video below to see how to watercolor with the Wink of Stella Brush.

The flowers take on a translucent look using this technique.   And painting with the Wink of Stella Brush gives the flower a shimmery finish as well.  The flowers are gorgeous and they look even better in real life.

I used the Wink of Stella instead of an Aqua Painter to color my flowers.  The subtle glimmer is gorgeous.

Penned & Painted Handmade Card

Perfectly Penned Stampin' Up!

Hello Friends,

Today, I made a simple handmade card with the Penned & Painted stamp set.  Wow is this ever a beautiful stamp set!  It's 2 step stamping at its finest.  My Mom and Dad and 3 of sons and their families all live out of state.  Sometimes I miss them so much that it hurts.

Handmade Miss You Card

Do you like the look of a label on this one layer card?  Surprise, it's not a label, but the Labeler Alphabet Stamp set.  The neat part about this stamp set is that I can say anything I want with stamps.

Stamping Flowers and Leaves

I used a stamping technique called masking to stamp the flowers and leaves.  First, I created a mask by stamping my flower image on post it notes.  These are the masks.  Next, I stamped my flowers where I wanted them on my card and covered them with the Post It masks.  And then, I stamped my leaves.

Penned & Painted

Using the masks makes the leaves look like they are tucked behind the flowers instead of floating in odd places.  After the leaves and flowers were in place, I went back and stamped my flower layers.  The bigger flower was stamped with Daffodil Delight, Crushed Curry and Delightful Dijon Inks.  The smaller flower is layers of Pool Party, Bermuda Bay and Delightful Dijon.

Lift Me Up Hot Air Balloons

Lift Me Up! Stampin' Up!

Hello Friends,

Have you ever gone Hot Air Balloon chasing?  It's quite the adventure.  Who knows where the balloon might land.  The last time we went on a Hot Air Balloon chase was a lazy evening just before dark.   A beautiful Hot Air Balloon was riding low over our farm house.  Curiosity got the best of us.  We hopped in the car for a balloon chase.  Believe it or not the Balloon landed in a cow pasture a few roads over.  The cows just stood there chewing their cud staring at the strange new arrival.

Today's card brought to mind that dusky evening balloon chase.  The Lift Me Up Bundle captures the beauty and the romance of ballooning and was a perfect choice for making today's card.  It's a must have stamp and die bundle for all Hot Air Balloon lovers.

Lift Me Up Hot Air Balloon Stamps

To get the look of a dusky sky, I heat embossed white Hot Air Balloons, then sponged Soft Sky and Wisteria Wonder ink across them.  This Technique is called Emboss Resist, because the embossed areas resist the ink.  Next, I stamped Wisteria Wonder Clouds and cut them out with the Up & Away Thinlits Dies and my Big Shot and scattered them across my sky.

The Wisteria Wonder, Soft Sky and Wild Wasabi is this week's Splitcoast Stampers color challenge.  I'm happy to announce that I've been asked to be a Guest Designer for the Splitcoast Stampers Color Challenge for the month of February.  Be sure to stop back, every Tuesday for a new color combo.
